98 civic axle, balljoints, rotors

I'm changing the axles on a 98' Honda Civic. :disappoin

My question is, why won't the rotors slide right off? :eek7:
I cannot get these things to budge!!!

On top of that, the ball joints refuse to come off, with a softfaced hammer nor a rubber mallet.

(I'm scared to death to use a regular hammer, which is what I used on the pass side only to mushroom the bolt ends and now I have to replace those!)

I can do that (replace balljoints) BUT why won't the rotors come off!!? :crying:
I've been working on this car for 9 days straight, I'm getting sick of it.
Thank you,
Trish

Welcome to Repairing cars in Minnesota! The rotors will not come off because they are rusted enough to pinch themselves to the hubs. If you wack them hard enough they will come off but they will also be damaged. The good news is there is no reason to remove to rotor to replace the axle.

With the nut removed from the lover ball joint whack the lower control arm with at least a 3lb metal hammer (dead blows work great) while pulling up on the rotor/knuckle. You'll never get it with a rubber mallet!
