parts That Never Go Bad?regalfriend 09-05-2009, 11:50 PM I have a 97 GS 170,000 miles on it There are parts that i never replaced and neither did the previous owner. I bought it at 75k. i know the original owner. still has original radiator waterpump cooling fans alternator...supercharger(w/rattle) on its thirrd tranny about 10 win motors e regs several tension and idler pullys... im real surprised about the cooling system...i always used dexcool...never flushed the system just drained it through the lowere hose..when i take the radiator cap off its full of crud...this car is also a daily driver in las vegas thisnametooktolong 09-06-2009, 09:38 AM I bet that water pump will take a dive before it hits 200K... If I were you I would rebuild that blower before it really goes bad. If it has been rattling for a while the paddles may already be galled. I have never cracked open the GM OEM roots blower, but I have had more than one roots blowers apart from 3-71 to 8-71 They are all biased on the GM 6-71 blower used on diesel engines. And it is not good for anything to be rattling. It is catastrophic if it seizes, but it is really cool if it happens above 5000RPM, the sound, the parts flying, it is almost as cool as a crank flying on to the street or a clutch zipping out the fender wall. Lets not forget a FWD differential landing on the center console when you have a two car lead on a Cobra Mustang 100 feet before the 1/4 mile mark. I have never cracked open the GM OEM roots blower, but I have had more than one roots blowers apart from 3-71 to 8-71 The rattling is caused by a bad coupler and has nothing to do with the paddles or do you mean impellers? It is an easy and inexpensive fix and does not require a rebuild. Just for reference the L67 Regal GS has the Eaton M90 Gen 3 blower. If you never cracked open this particular blower then why are you giving advice on it? :sly: thisnametooktolong 09-08-2009, 08:10 PM The rattling is caused by a bad coupler and has nothing to do with the paddles or do you mean impellers? Then if you have ever launched some parts get back to me. In any event nothing should rattle! HotZ28 09-08-2009, 08:33 PM Did some mention a "cracked open blower"? BTW, this is an Eaton M-90 GEN-3 blower! In the first pic, notice the three pins on the gear, that is where the coupler goes. The second pic shows the 'guts' of the snout with bearings, shaft & seal. In addition, notice the 3-drive pins in the shaft hub for the other three holes in the coupler. This unit took about 1 1/2 hrs to rebuild the snout with new bearings, seal, 3.4 pulley & coupler. Of course, all the required tools were in place in advance! If you are only replacing the coupler, it should not take more than 45-min with only common hand tools & sockets. Finally, in an effort to discount any fear of "launching some parts" I have never heard of an Eaton M-90 doing that! :shakehead http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/2794/sc3jd2.jpg http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/7484/sc1vh5.jpg BNaylor 09-08-2009, 09:38 PM Big picture,,,,,, it needs work, read my post again. Then if you have ever launched some parts get back to me. In any event nothing should rattle! You failed to answer my question. Based on your reply obviously no have no experience with an Eaton M90 blower to be giving any credible advice. :nono: Finally, in an effort to discount any fear of "launching some parts" I have never heard of an Eaton M-90 doing that! :shakehead Me neither Bo. I used to launch guided missiles when I was in the service but :wtf: ....:screwy: richtazz 09-09-2009, 08:17 AM Big picture,,,,,, it needs work, read my post again. Bo and Bob have more information about the supercharged GM 3800 than you will ever know. You may want to read the AF guidelines again, as we have a tendency to frown on snippy people that don't know what they're talking about. Just a heads up for you. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
