hi guys,
we are having a group build contest on SPC forum, I thought I'll post some pics over here as well. I hope you don't mind!!
my entry is Rossi's 2007 bike. well, sort of....
I'm using the 2005 Tamiya kit with Top Studio super detail up set and Studio27 decals and some other Top Studio and Hobby Design parts.
I know there is a transkit for the 2007 model but I think there is not BIG different between the 2005 and 2007 bike's body panel, well at least not $150 worth of.... :icon16:

http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/6656/minidscf2372.jpg

started with the racing stands

the frame and swingarm were filled with Tamiya putty.

Cheers,
well, you don't have to fill the frame and swingarm it will hardly be visible anyway. but in this case it's gonna look like more as a resin kit.

thanks!
frame and swingarm was painted with TS-6 matt black over gray primer!

little update!
I managed to make the chain on the weekend using Hobby Design chain set. it's very nice and easy to work with, took me 3 hours but I think it was worth it!

So you will use the 05 cowls huh, interesting as you put such effort in all the other detailing parts. But as you say, 150 $ is quite steep.

/Joel

hi Joel, yes, I'll be using the '05 cowls on this bike.
well, I know it won't be perfect match but I think after the decals it will be hard to notice the differents, unless you are trying to find them.... that's what I'm hoping for, anyway.
and after spending $250 I thought I wouldn't add an other $150 for 4 resin parts.... this build is a warm up for Top Studio's YZR M1 2008, first I wanted to learn more about these detail up set and parts from Top Studio.
to be honest it wasn't gonna be this expensive build but I added more and more to it on the planning and then this contest came up so I thought that many details would be just enough.

and here's what I've done on the weekend
exhaust still without muffler springs

http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/4598/minidscf2651.jpg

Very nice build! I'm finishing my '06 Rc211V now using the Top Studio chain. With the HD chain, how do you keep it together? CA glue? Hammering (like the TS chain)? With the price of the HD kit being almost 1/2 of the TS, I might try that out next time! The chain looks nice.

Really nice! What did you use for the hose clamps? Also, how did you connect the muffler spring hooks? I should be getting that photoetch set for my project soon, I'll need to attach them to some aluminium tube since I'm making the exhaust myself.

Cheers Daniel, the HD chain was quite easy to work with, NO hammering needed. I used Super Glue to fix the parts together.
Next time I'm gonna try Top Studio's chain set, I love the idea of an actually working chain.

Cheers,
I have some PE hose clamps but I don't like those so I just used a very narrow piece of metal foil. (you can call that cheating.... :uhoh: )
for the spring hooks simply used Super Glue.
I think it will stick to aluminium as well, should be fine!

Nothing is "cheating" in modeling, just different ways to approach the finalgoal. I think the metal foil works wonders.

hi eric,

exhaust pipe was painted with Tamiya TS-30 silver leaf over Tamiya white primer then I masked it with 0.4mm masking tape and added a light coat of TS-71 smoke. finally some weathering using Tamiya weathering master D set.

you can find some useful pictures here:

oops.... well, first I tried shrink tube but I couldn't quite get them down to the same size ALL the way and I hate the way they curve.... actualy they don't.... :shakehead I mean they just break and turn sharply
then I tried some 0.6mm wires but I found those too thin next to the 0.45mm wires which goes up next to them from the sensors.
I'd prefer tubes something around 0.8 mm but I couldn't fine any... so I had to stick with those Tamiya tubes... :frown:

That's a fantastic work Tom,
Congratulations on that build. There are a lot of Yamaha's detailed on Internet and not so much RC211 bikes... Looking at your pictures I'm starting to feel the need of start a new Motogp project!

perhaps I didn't get the sizes right but I like it as it is.... :uhoh:

That's one thing I'm looking everytime now... I always say the same, If I'm going to make a thing that is very very small, and it results bigger in the end, I prefer to remove that part. And this is the same for the wiring, if you take a wire of the bike and do the conversion for that scale, then the wire will be super thin...

I thought a couple of days ago to buy an extra tweezers

to be honest I'm not even close to your modelingskill level Roca!
I'm using pretty basic tools and equipments and I guess don't feel confident enough to redo those things without messing the build up.

Well done! Looks like there were no problems during painting. Waiting for decals.

One question: which way do you do the black inside painting? First the main colors and then the inside, or vice versa? I usually do the inside painting as the last phase, after clearing the outside. It is quite easy to clean possible overspray when using 2K clear as top coat and waterbased acrylics for the black.

well, I usually paint the inside of such parts then mask it off and spray the outide and after decals just clear it all around.
I don't know anything about 2K clear... I'm still using spray cans... :uhoh:

I just can't wait for the paint to get dry so I can polish it and apply decals :icon16:

stay tuned!

T

hi guys,
I've finished applying the decals!
had a little trouble with the sizes.... they are waaaaaay too oversized more like 1:9 scale... (letters are too "fat" and I couldn't fit all the decals what I was supposed to below them)
but overall I'm very happy with the result! :iceslolan

Such a beauty, Tom! Really well executed. I have always wondered how they manage to bloop decals like that, sure they must test fit before printing?? I think you've done a great job with them and to me it looks great!

thanks guys!
I've managed to spray a few light coats of clear on the cowlings today. I'm using TS-13 out of can so I can not spray too much at ones. a few more layers tomorrow and hopefully I can do some polishing on the weekend!
stay tuned!
Cheers,
Tom

hey guys,
here's the last update before I post finished pictures of the bike :naughty:
I'll wax the parts and add more details, some rivet, before the final assembly. I hope you like it.

It looks totaly fantastic your project.

Im now making the 2009 Fiat Punto Evo Estoril special scheme bike, but im very slow in this building, you know, im full of work and the time is something i dont have in this moment of my life.

I hope to advance with this and some other projects that i have to share some pictures with you and the other exelent modelers that i find in this site.

Be carefull with the fitting of the S27 decals. They are not very accurated as they used to be the regular decals they made!!!

I love your job on this bike, congratulations!!
