Brake Parts Hardware - how to put in??

Caliper mounting bracket.

I’m replacing the caliper mounting bracket. The replacement part I got is the simple metal, so I have to put in the brake hardware kit.

What I’m trying to figure out is where all these little rubber pieces go. I can see I need to press in two rubber bushings, but not sure where these other little pieces go. Especialy the little tiny "O" shaped piece of rubber.


My thought is the tiny rubber piece goes in first, then the longer one, then press on the bushings. Take a look at this picture and see if you think it's correct.

*this is for a 1998 Chevy Venture - but I know same brakes go on a lot of Chevy's - so anybody with a little help. Thanks

Have you looked at how the old/current one is assembled?

The parts are too old to understand what's in there and also get destroyed when you 'un-press' the bushings, from the caliper mount.

Looking at the kit again - there are only two of the little rubber "o" pieces - there should be 4 of them as this kit is for both sides. I assume the little "o" does not go inside the caliper mount.

Anybody? I can't find anybody that knows anything - nor any reference materials. Please a little help

Check the info at autozone.com, repair guides register and go to brakes. From memory the bracket has no addt'l parts. The o rings may be for the caliper slides.

actualy I picked up this kit at autozone and those repair guides was the first place i looked online. NObody from the store knew anything of value.

I also have the Mitchell CD and that's no help. Spend a few hours on google also, no luck.

I went ahead and pressed in the boot/bushings without any of those other parts.

However, if anybody can tell me where these other rubber pieces go - I'd really like to know.

Normally the kit comes with instructions. Ask to look at another kit someone may have removed one.
You can always go to a scrap yard and look I've done this before.

This is still a mystery. Hit up all the pro's I know - nobody seems to understand. There is no instructions in the kits.

I don't think the junkyard will also work, as like my oem part it gets destroyed when you unpress the bushings as well as age makes it impossible to figure out what's in there.

Seems like a simple thing - how to put a brake caliper together

does the manufacturer has a website you could go to? Hopefully they have instructions online! Who's the manufacturer anyway?

When you buy a brake hardware kit for calipers, they don't include the slide pins. You should purchase those as well.

The accordion-style rubber boots are what seal the pins from the environment by snapping onto the underside of the head of the pin. That's pretty obvious.

The small rubber ring looks like it would probably fit into a groove inside the caliper's slide pin bore to seal that end (opposite the head) from the environment. The very end of the slide pin would stick out and be visible after being pressed through this rubber grommet.

The longer, grooved, rubber part appears to be what would fit into a cut recess (a narrowed diameter) of the slide pin to keep it centered in the bore and help prevent metal-to-metal contact. The grooves help lube grease transfer. I've seen similar pieces on Toyota pins but not as long...so I'm reaching a bit here. Aftermarket replacement pins may not have the recess so you may not need it.
