I thought it might be the fuel pump, but I think I hear it go on when I put the key in the on position, and I've never had the car stall on me once it get's going. But It will crank for a few seconds, I'll stop, try again, it will start, then stall, 3rd time's usually a charm.
I also notice the smell of gas when this happens.

Not sure. But if the 94 has a Crank Position Sensor (CPS/CKS) think it does I'd check it out. The CPS/CKs plays some funny games if you know what i mean.
