Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew what the electric lines are that ground to the body and bolt to the steering knuckle are for on a neon. I just did a brake job on one and one of them was broken. I have never seen these before and was real curious as to what they might be. They look like wire that you run something electrical with but they really don't hook to anything electrical. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Guess no one knows. My 2001 has them I just assumed they were for static discharge.

They are there to aid in the transfer of ground (negative ions) to the body and, as you saw, the steering column. They are located in various places on nearly all cars. If one breaks, it's usually not a problem as long as the main grounding spot is still clean and making a good contact via bolts or what have you. Some older cars required them and relied on them more than the newer unibody cars of today. (yeah ..I'm talking old!)
