"Induction" Cleaning

I took my '06 500SEL to the local dealer Friday for an oil change. It has 33,000 miles on it and the Service guy says the mechanic recommends an "Induction" cleaning for $135 and a cooling system flush and fill for $125. I am sure they meant an intake cleaning and fail to see why this car would need either as I am the second owner and bought the car a year ago with 26,000 miles on it. The first owner was a little old lady. Thoughts?

Just go by your service manual. The dealer service guys push this stuff for numbers. I have a 2001 Expedition and serviced it at 100,000 like the manual said. 128,000 on the clock and runs like new. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Hey Franco, good call. You are a genius. I can't start to count how many problems would have never occurred if guys had had just kept their hands out of it. I've got 185,000 miles on my Escort and if it ain't broke, I don't fix it and nothing has ever broke on it. A case in point, one of the guys on the Escort Forum decided to refill his manual tranny with new fluid. Accessing the fill point involved removing the speed sensor and speedometer drive gear. The speedometer drive gear dropped down into the case and jammed the shifter. Cost him $1200 to have the tranny shop take it apart to retrieve it. I know I'm opinionated, but I just can't help it.

sounds to me like they are just trying to service your wallet. just stick to the maintenance schedule and you will be fine
