High RPM's starting up...? Pedal loose...?Boodis91 08-24-2009, 06:48 PM So im new here and saw a thread similiar to mine but I wasnt quite sure if I had the same problem. So here's the story...I went mudding (not hardcore, just alot of mud) I parked my car and sat it in a parking lot for about 4-5 hours went into town with my friend (to save me gas) We come back to get my car and it starts actin up...we check the oil and its all sludge thats all it is. So we change the oil and the oil filter and the RPM's go down to where its used to be. We go about a mile or 2 down the road and the RPM's go nuts (up, down, up, down) and my pedal is so loose you have to push it to the floor to even go anywhere. When I push the pedal up, the RPM's are still actin up. So I turn off the car, check shit, restart the engine and the RPM's just go into the red. If I can remember about 3-6k RPM's...and the pedal is still loose. Ive heard the TPS or a vaccum hose? Any help would be greatly appreciated... MagicRat 08-24-2009, 09:30 PM Check your throttle linkage and the throttle valve on the air intake. It should be easy to find out why the pedal is loose.... broken return spring, broken throttle shaft etc. Likely the loose pedal and the revs are related. Fix the pedal and chances are, the RPM's will return to normal. oljeeptek 09-01-2009, 02:55 AM Don't forget to look for broken motor mounts. Lets the linkage tension change, although not as much with cable linkage. If the tps ckt is acting up it'll idle down if you disconnect it running. Idle tps voltage should be about .7volts. If the voltage signal drops out and comes back to normal, the ecu sees the lowest voltage as closed throttle and the normal voltage as part throttle. Mushier than normal pedal can only be from return spring issue (unless you have an assist monkey under the hood.) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
