hey guys i need some help, my 1999 escort stutters and falls on its face when it gets to about 4000 RPM, it just wont accelerate any further past that. any ideas on what it could be?

If you aren't getting a CEL start with the basics, fuel-spark. Run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the gas. Change out the plugs and ignition wires. Then move on to sensors. Most code readers won't tell you what the problem is, they only tell you what is being affected by the problem. Make sure you have good spark and fuel delivery. Most everything else is computer controlled-timing etc.

How old is the fuel filter?
