Pour coolant in, coolant gushes out(2.5)billmiller09 08-14-2009, 09:32 PM Hey guys new in this part of a/f,, normally in the 4runner section.. but I just bought a 92 2.5 5 speed, s-10 , with 161xxx miles.. here is the problem,, Pour a gallon of coolant into the radiator, and a gallon of it runs right back out,, right where the bellhousing meets the block,, It looks to be actually coming out of a triangle gap(drivers side) in the upper corner of the bell housing face,, I know i can pressure test it,, but it runs out like this, without even putting the rad cap back on, or even starting it,, this thing will hold no coolant at all.. I have read the other post(searched the forum) and found none where a leak was this heavy... I dont think its a head gasket(cause owning toyota's ive experienced those problems,,) Im kinda clueless on it... all yeh,, motor does sound great when it is running,, just idles high at times(carb, not fI) any thoughts or advice fellows... thanks MagicRat 08-14-2009, 11:30 PM There might be a freeze plug back there that has blown out. If you are unlucky, the previous owner ran water in the radiator and the block froze and split... such splits will leak exactly as you describe. If it's split on a flat surface, it may be fixable. A skilled welder can weld and/or braze cast iron. But I think the first step is to remove the trans and take a look. billmiller09 08-15-2009, 12:25 AM the previous owner said that he parked it about 6 months ago and hasnt driven it since then,, he said that the heater didnt work in it,,and told me it needed a new radiator,, but I know its not the radiator... I had read about the freeze plugs and thought this might be the culprit,, but I may be lucky after all.. I am a welder by profession and once I drop the tranny out,, I will have to see what I can do... thanks for the info... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
