01 Jeep Cherokee intermittant oil leakhakachukai 08-13-2009, 10:11 PM My friend has a 2001 Jeep Cherokee 4 cylinder 2.0L that has a strange intermittant oil leak. He says that it leaks oil like crazy down on the exhaust pipe (and smokes a ton too). But it only happens after he's been driving a while, and usually driving up hill. When the car is parked, it doesn't leak. When you are driving it it doesn't leak most of the time. Something about driving it up hill, or possibly reaching a certian heat level seems to make it leak down on the exhaust pipe. :banghead: Any ideas? Is this a known issue with this make and model? fredjacksonsan 08-14-2009, 12:32 AM My first thought would be the valve cover on the engine. If it has a leak towards the rear, that would cause the issue. hakachukai 08-14-2009, 02:11 AM yeah, I guess that could do it. It seems really odd that it could both leak a lot AND only do it sometimes. I wish I could look at this car, but my friend lives clear on the other side of the USA. fredjacksonsan 08-14-2009, 07:18 AM Yeah, remote auto repair IS difficult! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
