The ABS light comes on and stays on when you start the truck, but goes out as soon as you put it in gear. Sometimes it wont go out until you drive a few miles. Failing sensor?

Yup, check the wiring to the wheel sensors. It'll be an electrical wire going to the front hubs if your speedo is working ok.
