1999 contour overhating thermostat has been changedmadd802 08-11-2009, 04:09 PM 1999 contour with a v6 overheats when u drive for a very short period of time the thermostat has been changed and its full of anti freeze it has 176,000 miles just not sure what else to do ? any help would be awsome SUPERDAVE22 08-11-2009, 04:15 PM Take off coolant cap(when not hot)and run see if u can tell if there is a flow. Coolant level should drop when thermostat opens. Could have air in system, or bad waterpump. IF COOLANT IS MOVING YOU MAY HAVE A COOLING FAN ISSUE madd802 08-14-2009, 02:16 PM the fan is kicking on but ill try to c if the antifreeze goes down when the thermostat kick in when we replace the thermostat we put the old one in boiling water to c if it opened and closed and it did so the thermostat was no bad bruce24444 08-14-2009, 06:01 PM I had the same problem with my girlfriends car. The fan would cut in but it would still get hot and then it would either stall or be very sluggish. I changed the fan temp control switch and the engine temp gauge and it seems to be working better but still have a a minor overheating issue on really hot days. You should also see if there is a bunch of dirt and bugs stuck between the tranny cooler and the radiator. I blew this out from the bottom and you wouldn't believe the crap that came out. JoeShmoe 08-15-2009, 09:42 AM Well my 98 v6 doesn't heat up but my light for the coolant stay constanly on. Water pump belt snapped Caused my coolant reseroir to break Caused car to overheat I had to replace the thermostat, tempature sensor, reservoir, and belt. Light turned back off for about a week and came back on after that. It will turn off sometimes after driving for 5 minutes. Any ideas vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
