How to replace power window switch?PTG1212 08-09-2009, 10:32 PM I have a 2001 Malibu that has a bad window switch on driver door for the rear passenger window. Using driver door switch window goes down but not up. Using rear door switch window operates fine. How do I remove the driver door window switch to replace it (or clean contacts)? Thank you. oldblu65 08-11-2009, 09:37 PM I don't have a Malibu so my answer will have to be a generic one . I replaced the same switch in my Impala recently and it should be very similar . See if there are any obvious screws in the switch ? There may not be any ? If not , take a small flat bladed screw driver and " GENTLY " pry under the edge of the switch . These generally are held in with plastic clips so again be gentle . It should pop out , then you pull it up gently and carefully unhook the wiring connection . Reverse the steps with the new switch and you should be good to go . PTG1212 08-13-2009, 01:53 PM I think you are right about the clips. I managed to find a decent pic of the replacement unit and it appears to be locked in with clips. I should be able to tell from the replacement part the approximate locations of the clips. Where did you buy your replacement switch. Looks like dealer is $90+ and several on line suppliers are $50+. The Malibu will nickle/dime you to death if you don't do minor repairs yourself. This forum has saved me a lot of $$'s. Overall it's not a terrible car, Chevy just used too many cheap parts. Fortunately with some investigation and a bit of mechanical skill and confidence most repairs which would have been $150 - $200+ dealer repairs can be done for $50 or less in parts. oldblu65 08-13-2009, 02:01 PM I bought the replacement switch at Autozone and it was in the $ 70 range. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
