No guesses here. :dunno:

With a statement like this one, it could be any car, anywhere:

It could be a marketing exercise to see if any one is interested and they may have a contact in another garage / seller who has one who may wish to sell. It's bought more traffic to their website anyway :)

Maybe off topic here but there used to be an F1 in the Aberdeen area of Scotland that seems to have dissapeared though I have no details of its chassis No etc.

That was 07R, belonged to a venture capitalist whose name I don't recall off the top of my head. I believe it was sold by Oakfield's.

It was an orange GTR (spoiler, skirts, loud). Is that what you saw?

It was certainly orange because at first glance I thught it may have been an LM but that seemed most unlikely.

Think the owner's name was Larry Kynch. Also owns a castle in Scotland. Don't know about the storing/selling part. It was certainly offered for sale by them. I guess it didn't sell and is still there?

Am sure there was also a road going F1 in Aberdeen owned by one of the bigwigs in BP or Shell

Well, he was in the oil business, so it was probably him. Maybe he had two cars? Maybe the rumors got mixed up and there was only this car? Or maybe there was another owner--Chris Dawes owned one and I believe he was up in that area sometimes. But I don't know if he took his McLaren there.

Dawes never took delievery of his F1 (068). We've been over this

40 built for racing eh?

Yeah - if that is an actual quote from someone at DK, I would be a little disappointed. The press makes a lot of mistakes though. :dunno:

I do find it odd that this car is getting so much press lately. I wonder if the expectation was that it might sell more quickly than it has, so now they are trying to generate further interest in it through news-based advertising?

It took the Gulf longtail GTR for sale at BingoSports a full year before it got noticed by any of the mainstream publications, and even then there were no quotes from the agents at BingoSports in those articles from what I can recall.

This article seems to imply the car has had a lot of potential new owners, but there must be a reason why a deal has not been consumated. I know they recently lowered the price considerably, and have uncustomarily not been ashamed to mention that publicly. You'd think some of those earlier customers might be back to look again now.

The best part (I guess) is if someone wants a F1 GTR right now and has the means to purchase one, there are certainly several to choose from.

Here is what Mr. B has said recently

I think it was perhaps priced too optimistically originally. The car has had lots of interest, but as the saying goes, "you can have a thousand lookers, but you only need one buyer". Time will tell no doubt!

yep... and a couple of the racing ones were converted down for street use... however they lack the sound suppression which is in the original street versions... either way its all music to my ears...

Actually, Chris was being slightly sarcastic with his comment, as that figure printed of '40 cars for racing' is someone's mistake.

In reality, McLaren built a total of 28 GTRs over 3 years - 9 '95-spec, 9 '96-spec, and 10 of the '97-spec longtails. I can count to 9 the number of GTRs that I have seen wearing a real registration plate up to this point, some with varying levels of conversion to achieve that.
