Does anyone know how to clean a dirty fuel tank? The car has not been started for a few years. I have removed the tank and dumped sluge, but the inside is very messy.

my best guess would be to put some xylene in it and let it set. it's like a paint thinner on steriods.you should be able to find it relatively easily at a hardware store. really flammable stuff so be careful. i'd change out your fuel filter and pump too just to be on the safe side.

it'll need to be dumped back out also and then let it dry. i wouldn't run it through a motor. thats all the help i can give you.

It's much easier and safer to take the tank to a do-it-yourself car wash and thoroughly wash the inside with the high-pressure wand and some soapy water.
