Hi,
I stumbled across this site while searching for info on the Geo Metro and found some really good posts. I was hoping to get some advice on things to look for on a used Metro. I am currently looking at a 94 4dr auto with just over 40K on it. Most reviews that I have read have mainly good to say about the car, but I would like to know if there are any design issues to look out for? I have read a few things about lifter failure and exhaust clogging which both can cause valves to burn. Is this a common issue? Any other advice on what to look for would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to find an inexpensive and dependable commuter so I will not have to ride my motorcycle through the winter again this year.

Thanks

Don't be expecting the good gas mileage with that autobox. I think that with the old epa ratings the best they got was 39 whereas a 5 speed should easily get into the 50's.

Look for rust. Specifically look above where the control arms attach in the front. This is where the cancer gets many Metros, especially in a salty winter area. You'll see lots of posts about this specific problem on this forum.

40k is excellent for a car that year. That's pretty close to new. I think if you take care of it, it'll easily offer you 200k of service. Make sure you run 5W-30 oil in it. Heaver oil likes to make the valves burn.
