97 gmc sierra fuel pump relay gets hot

the relay gets hot and shuts down the fuel pump let it cool off and truck starts again anyone know what the problem is

typically a lot of resistant would cause it.

how many miles on the fuel pump? may be the fuel pump going bad or just the wiring is corroded

it is the fuel pump going bad. had this same problem on a 99 silverado and 96 tahoe. replaced the fuel pump and never had it happen again.

That is why the oil pressure switch runs fuel pump gray wire in parallel- in case of fuel pump relay failure..

Your service manual fuel pump wiring diagram clearly shows the fuel pump relay in parallel with the oil pressure switch...and the text describes that it is this way in case of relay failure.....so how does the relay alone shut you down? you must have another problem- like a worn out fuel pump.....
