94 voyager rack and piniontempfixit 07-30-2009, 07:34 AM Has anyone done a seal kit repair on a 94 voyager rack and pinion? I would think the housing would need to be honed, if so is there a special hone for this or would a brake hone work? Any tips on doing a seal replacement would be appreciated, also if someone knows where to get a step by step procedure would also be appreciated. thanks cobraa 08-21-2011, 12:04 AM We found it was cheaper in the long run just to replace the rack and pinion than to re-seal. Plus the Rack and pinion will have a warranty. Just replace with either a reman or new, you would be better off. b1lk1 08-21-2011, 08:26 AM This type of work is FAR beyond the realm of 99% of the people posting here. If you can even find a seal kit, the tools and breakdown of the assembly are going to be near impossible to find. Try AllData or Mitchels. Otherwise, you'll need a factory service manual as there will be little info on tearing a rack apart. The customary repair is to use a remaned rack or a new one. I know of no service station or mechanic that would even attempt what you want to do. tempfixit 08-21-2011, 08:52 AM The original post was in 2009 making it over 2 years old. I did repace it with a remanufactored, less than 100 miles later something in the tranny broke and junked the vehicle. b1lk1 08-21-2011, 11:08 AM Yeah, cobraa necro-posted a bunch of old threads........ cobraa 08-21-2011, 01:31 PM I didn't realize the post was that old. Guess I need to check more closely. Sorry about that. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
