Brake Caliper and Knock Noise solved, sort of!

Ok guys/gals I've read that a lot of people have this knock noise when applying brakes to this car. What I have found is that the noise is due from the caliper NOT holding the rotor and wheel in place. So if you make a turn and press the brakes you hear a loud knock.

In my case it sounded like the wheel was going to fall off. And it almost did! I found that the brake caliper, even though bolted in completely still moved parallel to the cv joint. That is right, it would travel along the path of the bolts. Now I know what you're thinking, "you probably just didn't tighten down the bolts enough" or "you're missing the guide pins for the bolts." However, this is not the case. I even had to take it to a shop to replace the wheel studs that broke loose.

After a mechanic and myself looked at it, long enough, I was able to determine that the cause of the whole situation was, in fact, the travel of the actual caliper. I've tried torching down the caliper and it appears completely down and that the rotor/hub/caliper won't move. However, you can still slide the caliper around, bolts don't budge. My question, WTF!! is going on?! Is the caliper piston, when under weight of the wheel, won't stay far enough out? Brake levels appear to fine. I don't think it can be the piston is not coming far enough because I have even braking once the wheel is "knocked" or really pulled back into place. Thanks a bunch ahead of time!

Good luck and God Speed!
