Parking BrakeJoe Wilson 07-23-2009, 11:55 AM I noticed recently that the parking brake on my 98 S-10 doesn't stay engaged when I push the pedal down. The brake works just like the regular brake, push it down and it works but doesn't stay working. I tried messing with the hand release and pushing the pedal down harder but it stays the same. I would guess it's in the pedal mechanism. Am I right? j cAT 07-23-2009, 09:21 PM I noticed recently that the parking brake on my 98 S-10 doesn't stay engaged when I push the pedal down. I found on the 1994 s10 that the release mechanism is rusted and sticks,,,,,or the cable sheathing is binding on the inner cable... spray this area with some wd-40.... Joe Wilson 07-26-2009, 11:19 PM Is the parking brake pedal and mechanism easily removed for repair? DoCTa09 08-21-2009, 05:24 PM I had this same problem..the pedal assembley comes out rater easily. I found when the assembly was out that the plastic inside the assemble which holds the spring in place was cracked and therefore was not allowing it o ratchet and latch. Resolution..buy a new assemple for around 100 bucks. phammerjr 08-22-2009, 01:30 PM I had the exact same problem on my 02. I just bought a new one for 75 bucks. it is a pain getting up under the dash to do the replacement. also is pretty tough to get the lever assembly disconnected from the brake cable. Joe Wilson 08-22-2009, 10:56 PM Anyone know of a good place to buy the assembly? DoCTa09 08-23-2009, 12:28 PM Doesnt get much cheaper than the dealer.. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
