I have a 2000 windstar with some interestng problems, and I am desperately seeking help. The driver brake light doesnt work, along with the passenger turn light, along with them not working is the electronic door locks. The only door that will lock is the drivers door and it will only work 2 or 3 times if I just lock and unlock. The garage had it for 3 days and said that they could not find any shorts or bad fuses or bulbs, they came up with the Body Control Module(under the passenger side dash). This part goes for over $800, does anybody have any clues before I go out and byuy this thing.

I suggest you first buy the official Ford wiring diagram for your specific model. Usually about $150 from helminc.com. Less from places like Books4cars.com.

Will save you money in the long haul.

It isn't just a single Body Control Module that you have - you have a Front Electronic Module (FEM) and a Rear Electronic Module (REM). Is it the front or rear passenger turn light which is not working, or is it both?

Hello-

Sounds like your mechanic checked out what he was capable of doing and not finding anything there suggested the BCM. Sure sounds like he's taking a guess - it may be an educated guess - but a guess with $600.00 of your money non the less.

Furthermore - it is possible you could have two coincidental problems unrelated to the BCM. For instance - I believe there is a Rear Electronic Control Module located around the jack storage location that could explain the rear light issues - and several things that may explain the door lock issue.

Before I laid out $600.00 I would probably call my local Ford dealer and find out what it would cost to put my van on their test equipment to determine the actual cause of your problem. I sure they could give you a definitive diagnosis for a reasonable fee.

Good Luck-
Glenn

the same guy sells the wiring diagram for 6.
