Robert McNamara (June 9, 1916 – July 6, 2009)

With all the focus on dead celebrities, here is one that you may have missed.

MacNamara was one of the best Ford Motor Company execs in the 1950's.
He was there from 1946 through 1960 and helped turn that company from a total mess to a very efficient organization. In hindsight, many of his management, marketing and product decisions were very astute.

He was best known as US Defense secretary in the 1960's, and for his role in the US involvement in Vietnam. He later regretted many of his decisions which escalated the conflict.

From 1968 through June, 1981, he was head of the World Bank.

Throughout his career, he was a brilliant and accomplished analyst and manager. As a business manager myself, I am impressed at just how far he got, so quickly, in the business world and in public service.

FWIW, he was just as talented as some dead guy who knew how to sing and dance. Just my :2cents:
