AC Clutch Replacementalabamatx 07-03-2009, 06:04 PM Our '02 GC w/ 133K mi has an intermittent AC problem. The compressor clutch will disengage occasionally, usually after driving in hot conditions. the unit works fine otherwise. The coolant pressures are normal when running. I have jumpered the pressure switches and replaced the clutch relay and it wouldn't make it re-engage. I sprayed the clutch with a little water to cool it off and it re-engaged. A guy at the AC shop tapped on the clutch and it re-engaged. The AC shop won't replace the clutch & coil. They want to replace the compressor too which requires bleed, refill and a lot of labor. My question to the forum is whether it's as simple to replace the clutch & coil as it looks in the service manual? I would appreciate comment and advice from someone with experience doing this. xj31 07-03-2009, 09:47 PM They are pretty easy to replace. You are supposed to use a special puller to take the clutch plate off but they usually come of with a little prying.Who cares if you damage it since you are replaceing it.You probably need an impact wrench to get the bolt out if you don't use something to hold the clutch so it doesn't spin. You will need snap ring pliers to get the coil off but its really easy. You sound like you have some intelligence and common sense,so I think you can do it alabamatx 07-06-2009, 09:39 PM Anybody know where to buy an AC clutch assy? I ordered one for Rock but they canceled and said it's out of stock & discontinued. Thanks vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
