1994 3.8 T-Bird LX - Steering Rack removal?bobski55 07-02-2009, 07:02 PM Hi: I'm having a hell of a time trying to remove the steering rack to replace the seals, as I am having trouble dropping the rack as there are 2 lines on the top of the rack which are routed under the oil filter towards the passenger side of the vehicle just under the headlight, into some sort of box. Does anyone know what this box is? On one of the lines just above the rack is a fitting that has a removable plastic cap on it, but when you take the cap off , it's just a solid piece??? I had to take the the alternator and power steering pump off just have access to these fittings. Hopefully someone can get back to me on this before I take these fittings apart, they seem to be corroded. Thanks Bob bobski55 07-04-2009, 10:27 PM Finally got the rack off the car. It seems that the two lines that are routed over to the passenger side are going through a power steering cooler ( not a box), actually it's the return line that runs from the power steering reservoir to the cooler and back to the steering rack. The other line (pressure line) with that fitting , I believe is for "Variable Assist" , which I do not have on the car , and that's why there is a plug. Bought a re-manufactured rack, new pressure hose, new return line fittig, and new tie rods. Now to assemble everything back to-gether and get an alignment done. 97Bird 07-07-2009, 06:53 PM Glad everything worked out for you.
