GM Oil Life MoniterC man 07-01-2009, 04:32 PM Just wondering does the OLM reset if you disconnect the battery. I have had mine come on. I usually change my oil at 3.5k-4k intervals so I reset it but most of the time I disconnect my battery or something but I never knew if it reset it or not. But now I want to keep my oil in until the OLM light comes on to see how long it would take before I needed to change the oil. Most of the things that happens have happend to me. Except for the intake mainifold issue which I'm waiting for it failure. I have put 47k on it since I had it and it got changed out some time in 2003 or that at least how old the intake manifold is. Also I haven't experienced the CPS sensor problem or fuel pump problem. Basically I'm planning on spend as little money and time as possible since this has been a reliable car(put 1k miles on it last weekend) but I don't plan on neglecting it. I just don't want to over maintain like I do sometimes. I still plan on doing a transmission fluid change and fuel filter change in September once the summer heat passes. Just trying to maximize cost of ownership and save some :2cents: and maintain it properly also. maxwedge 07-01-2009, 08:24 PM Stepping on the gas pedal, engine off, to the floor 3x in 5 seconds should reset the system, if you have a driver info system there is a reset in there. Do not disconnect the battery this causes relearn situation that is unecessary. C man 07-02-2009, 02:02 PM Sorry, I was not implying that I didn't know how to reset the OLM. Mine is a button in the glove box and I have to hold it with the key on for 5 seconds until it flashes. I was asking does it still retain information like some of the computers in a car if you disconnect the batttery which I had to do a couple of times since my last oil change. Also I was wondering about opinons on the OLM. maxwedge 07-02-2009, 03:43 PM GM engineers have developed an algorythm that is pretty good regarding oil change intervals. I believe the OLM will not loose it's memory for a 5 minute disconnect, not sure though. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
