*I have a 4.0 L 6 Cylinder model* Hey guys, I just had a question about how to properly add coolant to the engine as I did some fluid checks on the car today. I have never added coolant to it today and the user manual confused me, it talks about opening the radiator cap and then telling me not to and that everything should be done cold, it contradicts itself multiple times as far as I'm concerned. Basically my car outside is stone cold hasn't been driven since last night, the coolant level in the reserve BOTTLE is smack dab in between full and add. Should I check it while it's warm? Should I add while it's cold? Does it NEED more coolant?

Also, my brother and I noticed that when the needle got to just under halfway in the heat gauge (I don't remember the temperature) that steam can be seen coming from the front of the radiator in humid temperatures and conditions? Once it hit that max it would then drop down and the steam would go away. This is what prompted me to check my coolant level. Is this normal? *I have since learned that this is likely water from rain or puddles I have driven through boiling off of the radiator.*

Thanks!
Cody

it is most likely just moisture on the radiator, but I would check the coolant level in the radiator when it is cold. if it is full I wouldn't worry about it. When you said: "Once it hit that MAX it would then drop down and the steam would go away" - do you mean it is overheating? When the temp guage max out?
