I would suggest a road-converted GTR but I really don't know enough to be sure! sorry :frown: mini magic 06-27-2009, 06:01 PM Its a GTR. The LMs have the traditional speedo dials. Also note the huge switch array on the right hand passenger side Does anyone else see red as well as orange paintwork? Then again it could just be the camera How cool would it be if its 010R and Mr. Mason has decided to repaint it back to its prototype livery complete with yellow GTR script carbuilder2002 06-27-2009, 06:47 PM 1996 GTR Certainly due to switch panel, instruments and wiper position, my guess is Mr Bridgers 16R, yes at first I saw a red tint on the RH wing but after looking at it several times the left hand door is clearly Papaya. Cant think of any other papaya GTR in the UK at the moment unless 11R's new owner has been having the fuel cell replaced at Mclaren. Peloton25 06-27-2009, 07:21 PM How cool would it be if its 010R and Mr. Mason has decided to repaint it back to its prototype livery complete with yellow GTR script That's what I am thinking. The other thing that confirms this is #10R is the gold dial to the right of the instrument cluster seen in the video. In #16R it's not there, but #10R has it. #12R also has the gold dial, but I doubt that GTR would have had the Gulf paint scheme changed. I left comments with the video and in Steve's blog. >8^) ER hurstg01 06-28-2009, 03:26 AM First I thought #24R, then I settled on #10R with a 'new' livery, [possibly for Goodwood???] Le Man 06-28-2009, 09:40 AM All will be revealed............ All we need now are the rest of the GTR's back in their original liveries. I read a comment somewhere stating that it was cheaper to repaint a GTR than a road car, I would have thought with the compexity of multi colour it would be more expensive assuming you were aiming for the same level of finish. F1GTRUeno 08-11-2009, 05:45 AM It's spot on against how it used to be isn't it? Unless anyone can tell any difference? They need to get them back as they were, and then get in the GT90s series. It'd be incredible to see them all on track again. At the very least get more of them out and about on Modena trackdays and stuff like that. Peloton25 08-11-2009, 12:04 PM It's accurate so far as I can tell. There really aren't a whole lot of original images to compare it against though, at least not in the public domain. I'm sure McLaren have a bunch of them tucked away in the files. As for the paint/vinyl question, it seems to me that something that would be easier to do with paint given all the compound curves on the F1's body. Andy, do you happen to recall how the original one was done? >8^) ER Le Man 08-11-2009, 02:01 PM This is another McLaren press pic, taken from a slightly higher view point. http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/9499/10rpress3.th.jpg (http://img41.imageshack.us/i/10rpress3.jpg/) Andy, I may have a slide from a press kit similar to above, if that may help. Like I said previously. all will be revealed. Like how a Swedish journo had crashed #10R recently and that it has had a lot of work done to bring it back up to this excellent standard of finish. Interesting to read that it still has some rear end handling issues, I have only just found out, that to put a 96 GTR on the road, it needs to be fitted with a 95 spec GTR gearbox for the required suspension geometry and ride height. Which explains some of the £200,000 GBP road conversion for 13R. "ITS THE GEARING THAT.LL CATCH YOU OUT" Sounds like my kind of car :evillol: Peloton25 09-02-2009, 10:21 AM Interesting too that the roll cage has now been removed from the car during this refit. >8^) ER andybee 09-02-2009, 08:25 PM I think (but I maybe wrong) 10R originally had the 95 bodywork when it was launched. Not sure if it was technically a 96 spec car at that point. Been updated with 96 doors, scoop and I assume everything else since of course. V.Little piece I wrote on Speedhunters re the creation of the livery if you are interested http://speedhunters.com/archive/2009/09/02/video-roll-gt-gt-mclaren-f1-gtr-10r.aspx carbuilder2002 09-03-2009, 02:40 PM Hmm you have me curious, what do you mean 96 doors I understood the only difference was a lighter layup but no visable diffferences? hurstg01 09-05-2009, 11:01 AM It's interesting to note they say the car is going back to Mclaren to have a mild re-think on the 'lively rear' [read:suspension]. Perhaps the Swede spun the car and hit the rear, knocking out the suspension? I can't recall anyone stating this much about #10R's handling before....... carbuilder2002 09-05-2009, 03:41 PM In his book Into The Red it comments on the somewhat twitchy nature of the beast. hurstg01 09-05-2009, 05:03 PM In his book Into The Red it comments on the somewhat twitchy nature of the beast. Sorry, confused the issue, I meant the door side skirt. IIRC was a different spec, but think it was the layup (can't remember), but 96 doors didn't have the bottom side skirt, which was fixed on the 95 doors. Obviously, these could have been removed in 96 during a refit/paint etc. The car had it on its launch image and IIRC also the first couple of tests, but was then retro-fitted to full 96 spec. carbuilder2002 09-07-2009, 05:16 PM Youre right I had clean forgotten about the skirts not being on 1996 cars and they had a different bottom treatment on the luggage doors also. Le Man 09-08-2009, 02:48 PM Youre right I had clean forgotten about the skirts not being on 1996 cars and they had a different bottom treatment on the luggage doors also. The 96 spec GTR,s did run with the 95 spec skirts from the start of the season till LeMans week. The new spec, which I think was an aero update? and was used mainly by the BMW/Fina cars. Then it was a mix of use, for the rest of the year, 03R & 06R ran with DPR spec door ducts and luggage doors all season. hurstg01 09-10-2009, 01:45 PM It was a man from Norway apparently, not Sweden, who had an 'off' in the car..... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/hurstg01/ArnsteinLandsem.jpg Peloton25 09-10-2009, 02:03 PM You'll need to rehost that image as they have blocked viewing unless someone is registered for their website. >8^) ER hurstg01 09-10-2009, 02:18 PM All changed :) Peloton25 09-10-2009, 03:52 PM That's got to be rough to have on your legacy. :shakehead >8^) ER hurstg01 09-10-2009, 04:05 PM Some scans from a Norwegian Magazine 'Autofil' http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/8829/skann0001.jpg http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/8584/skann0004.jpghttp://img188.imageshack.us/img188/5444/skann0003.jpg http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/9095/skann0005.jpghttp://img7.imageshack.us/img7/4694/skann0006.jpg http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/793/skann0008.jpghttp://img9.imageshack.us/img9/8017/skann0009.jpg http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/5313/skann0007.jpg Le Man 09-10-2009, 06:22 PM Interesting read!!
