Misfire and odor (Was: what to do?)hregent 06-26-2009, 08:45 AM I have a 2000 lincoln ls with the same problems with the misfiring the only thing different is when i turn my heat on (because the air dosen't work either ) i smell a strong odor of gas comin thru the vents espescially when i first start it up an cut it on right away sometimes i have to cut it off because i know that can't be good for u.It didn't start til the start of the misfire and shakin problem. And the sad thing is that i took my car to the local dealership and they kept my car for bout 3 mo. and stil couldn't tell me why it was misfiring they just got me out of 300.00 stil wit a broke car it drives fine it just runs messed up when i sit still. Please tel me what i'm missing? shorod 06-26-2009, 02:02 PM Welcome to the forum! Per the AF Guidelines, I've edited your thread title to something meaningful. Are you sure what you smell is fuel and not burning oil from leaking valve cover gaskets? The misfire situation is pretty common and should be well understood by a Lincoln dealership. Which engine does your LS have? Checking the spark plug wells for oil is pretty easy on the V8, less so on the V6 but still only takes an hour or two if you've never done one before. Also the on-board diagnostics are pretty good on these cars, with a decent scan tool a technician should be able to narrow down a misfire to a particular cylinder or cylinders as well as if it's fuel or electrical. Is there another dealer in your area that might be better at troubleshooting? -Rod hregent 06-26-2009, 02:56 PM Yes it is gas it is so strong at times if i have my vent on too long it will give me a headache,I sometimes smell oil it smells like an old vehicle that has been sittin, it's not burning oil i jus smell it from time to time while i'm drivin w/o the vents on.I took the car to autozone and they told me which cylinders were misfirin it also told me system too lean something bout bank2.I took it to the lincoln dealer(crossroads) the only other is Ford motor company and my thing is i don't want to get to them and have to pay all this money for diagnosis and they have my car for another two months and all i'll have is a big bill, i'm gonna change my spark plugs and coils myself i want to check my fuel injectors to make sure they are good also want to change the o2 sensors and hopefully then be back to normal vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
