I have an '05 Escape w/ a 3.0L AWD w/ 71k km. I'm the 2nd owner.

It has the OEM air filter (bought the truck from a Ford Dealer). I;m thinking of switching to something like a K&N air filter.

Anyone see anything negative about doing this?

Sorry about the noob question....I read something in another forum that got me thinking maybe I shouldn't do it. But I'd like to hear from you guys (or girls).

Thanks.

I'm not usually negative, but the oiled aftermarket "cold air" filters, in my opinion, can foul the MAF sensor wire. It is a fine wire that heats up every time you start the vehicle and over a period of time can get a buildup of residue from the oil on the filter. K&N says their filter is better, but I believe the stock filter will do as good or better. To all those that have an aftermarket intake, maybe I'm all wet. Dave

The thread I found was about another topic, but what you said is somewhere along the lines of one of the posts. It's what got me thinking I shouldn't use oiled filters.

I was thinking switch to K&N not for HP, but long term economy. Based on what I've found, might not be worth it.

Thanks.

with the new technology in engines, and the tight tolerances, I am going with OEM or knockoff regular filters.
I asked the dealer, they said no problem with Fram Air Hogs or K&N.
I had one in my 2000 montana..I found no difference in performance.
