Solstice Coupe, the last new Pontiac EVER - cool picture underneath the GW Bridgelotustt1 06-22-2009, 02:44 PM Damn this thing is hot - too bad it will only be available for one year before Pontiac goes away - does anyone know how many they are making? http://manonthemove.com/2009/06/22/pontiac-solstice-coupe-gxp-the-george-washington-bridge-fort-lee-nj/ MagicRat 06-22-2009, 04:40 PM This is from Wikipedia: n April 2009, after GM announced the discontinuation of the Pontiac brand by the end of 2010, CEO Fritz Henderson stated that the Solstice would not continue under another GM brand.[14] In May, he added that they would consider selling the Wilmington plant and the Solstice/Sky products to an outside business.[15] The Wilmington assembly plant is currently scheduled to close in July 2009. So it looks like the Sky is dead, too. That plant also made the near - identical Opel GT for Europe....... also dead. When I first heard about the Solstice, I thought the name would be Latin for Fiero, and that, like the Fiero, GM would spend big $$$ to develop it, then find a way to pull the plug before it could fulfil its potential. The similarities are striking........ both are somewhat parts-bin sporty cars that were significant inroads into the enthusiast marketplace and both were killed far too early. Production numbers: Calendar Year / Total American sales 2004 / 3,287 2005 / 5,445 2006 / 19,710 2007 / 16,779 2008 / 10,739 Shpuker 07-27-2009, 07:13 PM I thought the sky was Saturn? any way Its kinda upsetting that Pontiac got shut down :nutkick: you woulda thought they'd shut down oldsmobile and saturn first MagicRat 07-27-2009, 08:59 PM I thought the sky was Saturn? any way Its kinda upsetting that Pontiac got shut down :nutkick: you woulda thought they'd shut down oldsmobile and saturn first Yes, the Sky is a Saturn, but is almost identical to the Solstice. FWIW Saturn has not been closed down. It has always been maintained as a largely seperate entity from the rest of GM... with it's own fairly unique designs, engineering and manufacturing plants. Therefore, GM has been able to sell the entire Saturn division to Penske as a seperate going concern. This was not a realistic option with Pontiac. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
