Deep Water-AC Compressor Bearing Noisedozersoldier 06-20-2009, 12:06 PM Hello everyone. I have a 2001 Dodge Durango RT with the 5.9 Yesterday, my town had heavy flooding. I hit some water flooding at a quick speed, About 4 inches deep. That is when the problems started. My check gauges light went on, and my battery charge indicator was showing no charging.(Alternator belt slippage). That corrected itself after going through the water. Then I started hearing a squealing noise. Which I just shrugged off, because I thought it was belt noise. I had to go through some deep water at one point to get to my home. How Deep? The water level was up to about the Crankshaft pulley. Which is at the bottom of the engine of course. I know my muffler was under water, because I could hear it. It was not up to the bottom of the cabin/doors. And it was not up to the fan blades of the cooling fan. I got home, and the noise was still going. So I checked, and the AC Compressor is making the squealing noise. With and without the clutch engaged. So I waited till the next day(today). Went out, and the same noise is coming from the AC Compressor. Loud piercing squealing noise, regardless if the AC clutch is engaged. Coming from the back of the AC Compressor. So I am guessing compressor bearing failure. The AC compressor on this engine sits real high, next to the alternator. And for the water to even be that high, well, Im sure you know, I would be sitting chest deep in water inside my truck if that was the case. Which it is not. Now, cars, not trucks, were going through this water. I couldnt believe some of the cars that made it. And some weren't the brightest, and traveling faster than they should, and water was coming over their hood. And they still made it. And here I come, in my big Durango, and the AC compressor bearings go out. LOL:runaround: So, what would cause this. Is the compressor a sealed system. Is their some sort of intake on this compressor, and maybe some water got in??? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
