NZ based newbie...jasestu 10-24-2001, 04:59 AM Hey all, just thought I'd make a big announcement of my presence just 'cause I can. Don't worry, this isn't a completely empty announcement, here's a link to a page on my sight were you can find some delightful pics of my P10... 1992 Nissan Primera TE (http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/jswright/primerapics.html) Well, at least the pics serve to remind you of what a stock Primera looks like... I've only carried out a few minor (and cheap!) modifications thus far: Hacked apart air box to get booming induction noise and improve airflow Set up a pipe to get cold air into the airbox Advanced timing Painted cam cover Removed cat conv (not required in NZ) Modified exhaust so that some baffles in the rear muffler are skipped Misc maintainence (clean throttle body, tighten clutch and throttle cables) I'm currently looking at getting a new grille (open meshed style) to try and set it apart asthetically from all the bazillions of grey primera's that I see round town. :) Anyways, see you all round... Jason. primera man 10-24-2001, 07:11 AM Welcome alond to AF. Good to see more and more Kiwi's getting here. Where ya from?? Have a good read through the hundreds and hundreds of G20/Primera threads :p :p ....there's plenty of good info. atomic-G 10-24-2001, 02:43 PM Is the grass always that green in NZ? ;) Welcome to the board! c00l ride :sun: - now once you read through all the threads, you're going to go banana's on your P. Jay! 10-24-2001, 02:45 PM Welcome to AF, Jason!!! :D Originally posted by primera man Welcome alond to AF. There can't be that many more of you! ;) :finger: AznVirus 10-24-2001, 03:19 PM :finger: W E L C O M E ! :finger: jasestu 10-24-2001, 03:27 PM Yeah, well, as per standard practice I've been reading the forum for quite a while before getting around to posting. There sure is a wealth of info here. The rest of the makes and models under the automotiveforums banner seem to be comparitivly idle - yeay for us G20/Primera owners, aren't we great. :) If anyone wants to know more about me, instead of the car, then you can read up here: Jason's Homepage (http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/jswright) I won't bother describing myself here as it's not particularly relevant. And yeah, given the size of our country, I guess most of the NZ Primera owners are here... Tho there are a hellva lot of Primera's driving around here... Not so interesting fact: Aussies don't have Primera's do they? T4 Primera 10-24-2001, 04:36 PM Welcome again Jason, I'd really like to see some pics of your airbox mods sometime ... :D :D jasestu 10-24-2001, 05:32 PM Airbox mods, easy as, just take to it with a hacksaw. :) I've not got any before pics of it, but I'll document the modification process in a couple of weeks or so. It gives it all the right sounds and it's cheap as, perfect for us poor student types. :) Basically what I've done: 1. Cut off piping flush with the front face of the airbox 2. Removed a total of 3 silencer boxes from the intake system (2 before and 1 after the filter) 3. Where the largest silencer (hides right down the front left corner of the car) was I set up a length of flexible host (80mm dia) to draw cool air up from the high pressure on the front corner to the airbox. I did a couple of tests with a mercury in glass thermometer and it looks like the cool air makes a significant difference. I intend to borrow a few thermocouples from uni and do a more accurate check of the temperature differences in the engine bay and the intake. Filter Element I was going to get a new filter element for it too, although the current one in it seems to be quite free-flowing. It's a type of foam and has the name FONZA on it, anyone know anything of this brand? jasestu 10-24-2001, 05:40 PM Originally posted by T4 Primera __________________ See my T4 here http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t7262-1.html Ummm, your pics at this link seem to have vanished... They're showing up ok from my home computer. I'm having problems with those pics. If I load them from home, they won't load at work and vice versa. I have no idea WTF is going on. :(  I think I'll remove that link from my signature until I work out WTF is going on. I don't have them posted anywhere else but I could email them to you. It just looks like any other blue P10 T4 you may have seen though. Like your website, especially that poll on boy bands, larynx removal and rusty spoons. LMAO:D:p :p Look forward to your write up on the airbox mod. :) P10DET 10-24-2001, 09:06 PM Originally posted by jasestu Aussies don't have Primera's do they? Nope. Jason. I did exactly the same thing - however mine is a home job. Its not that hard. I just cut away the bits from the middle of the grille, filled the holes with some filler and then went to REPCO and got some matching paint and fixed it up. Then I got some mesh and stuck it in there. It basically looks like this - although I dont have a digital camera so I can show you mine: jasestu 10-29-2001, 08:15 PM Originally posted by AWD Primera I did exactly the same thing - however mine is a home job. You had the same type of grille as me to start from? My Grille (http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/jswright/Primera/2.html) I looked at mine and decided it'd be too hard to do... Tho in light of your comments I might just give it a go. :) AWD Primera 10-29-2001, 09:07 PM Originally posted by jasestu I looked at mine and decided it'd be too hard to do... Tho in light of your comments I might just give it a go. :) The red lines show where I cut the grille. Along the top I just cut it back in line with the front of the bonnet. I figured that if I cut it away completly Id have nothing to attach the mesh to at the top. Ive got a Pearl Blue P10. If you go to Repco you can buy touch up spray cans. Im not sure of the offical colour name for your car but at Repco they have a list matching up cars and colours. I found that the colour is almost identical to my car, and because its only the grille that I painted, you wouldnt think they were different paint jobs. You also need to buy the clear coat that goes over the top. This gives the gloss finish and gives the resulting paint job a deeper look. As for the mesh I just got some insect mesh from Mitre 10. However, Im cheap and couldnt be bothered forking out the $59 for a huge piece of racing mesh from Repco - which would look much better. The insect mesh works OK although I intend to get the proper stuff. If you ask PrimeraMan nicely he can tell you where he got his. I think it was from some roofing place, but Im not sure. He only paid $30 for his. The pics below show where I cut it up. AWD Primera 10-29-2001, 09:12 PM As for filling the holes, I just used some car bog from Repco. Cant remember how much it was. Then I gave it a really good sand and primer before painting (Well actually I didnt, and after painting it I had to sand it back and make it smooth - you'd be surprised how easily the smallest scratch shows up in the sunlight!) AWD Primera 10-29-2001, 09:19 PM And the final result:(Something like this!) jasestu 10-29-2001, 09:32 PM While we're at it, Nismo logo... AWD Primera 10-29-2001, 09:37 PM Looking good. Actually - anyone know ehere I could get my hands on a Nismo emblem in Auckland? And how much? Looks just the same as the stuff fron Repco's I checked them out today (Jasper Place right?), but unfortunately they didn't have anything the right size left lying around. One of the guys suggested a place 'up the road', mikey's or miko's... His directions were a bit vague, but I'll try and hunt the place down tomorrow. jasestu 10-31-2001, 12:28 AM Originally posted by AWD Primera Looking good.
