Premature brake wear?

My 2005 Cavalier has only 28,000 miles on it. I bought it new in October 2004. The front brake pads and rotors were replaced in July 2007. They were replaced again in March 2009. I was told I don't drive the car enough and the rotors are so thin that they corrode fast. It is parked outside and I was told this also hastens the need for replacement. Is this true? Thank you.

It's true to an extent... the rust rubs off the rotor in the first few stops, and the rust tears the pads up a bit... so constant rusting would make the pads and rotors wear faster. In the past, I had driven very easily most of the time, and could have got 100k miles out of this style of brakes. After installing a supercharger, my front pads wore out about 50% in only 10k miles. Depending on your driving (or rather stopping) habbits, I'd say anywhere between those two numbers is "normal". Just make sure the slides are lubed and slide easily and the pads don't drag.
