My 1998 Pontiac Sunfire is having a problem with the charging system, they did a test and said it needed a alternator so I put one on put still have the same problem, they say the battery is good. Here is what it does, It has a slow crank sometimes no crank, and all the idiot lights are on, on the dash any Ideas? I have now also had the alternator test and they say the old one works fine out of the car but not in the car?????

tjschinkel,

I would say your battery is probably gone. I have had a battery test fine but as soon as you tried to start the vehicle it would short out a cell and would no longer crank. I put in a new battery and it started fine. If you swapped out the alternator then do the battery as well. Usually in my experience once one goes the other fails shortly afterwards. Hope it works out for you.
