I carried out an oil change and became confused and unscrewed the drain plug for the transmission oil from the gearbox. I've lifted the car up and had a good look under it and for the life of me I cannot work out where the filler plug is. I could put a a photo up if it helped. I have done a search but it appears nbody else is as silly as I am.

Can anyone tell me where on earth the transmission oil filller plug is? There's a diagram in the owners manual but its incomprehensible.

As a matter of interest I did manage to change the oil and for those who are are interested I attach some instructions below that are a bit more useful than those in the manual


Undo the filler the cap and loosen the dip stick
The oil filter is located at the front left side of the engine on the front of the sump and is hidden under a hose outlet. Put something under it to catch the oil and see f you can move it with your hands.
If you cannot, you will need to jack the car up. Note that it is generally easier to change the oil if you jack the car up.
If you jack the car up you can use the old screwdriver through the filter trick, or get a filter wrench onto it from underneath.
There is a big support chassis with a reinforced area that you can put the jack under. As always use car stands before getting under the vehicle..
In line with the oil filter but at the back of the sump there is the drain bolt for the sump. You should have a plastic washer for it. The sump is on the left hand side of the car and is black. Don’t confuse it with the transmission which is silver (or you will do the same as me!)

I'm assuming your talking about a manual transmission. I believe it's on the front side of the transmission case, towards the top. I've never changed it before, but thats the way it looks in my parts catalog.

Thank you. It is indeed a manual transmission. When you say that it is on the front, does your diagram show whether is it a big nut like the drain nut or a smaller one? When I look at the front I can see several smaller nuts but none of them look the right size - I'm assuming that it will be it enough for me to put my finger into it.

There is no transmission filter "plug". Under the transmission, you see many little bolts around. Remove all the bolts, trans oil will start leaking out of the gasket.

Then remove the trans pan, then you'll see the filter inside the trans. Change it, scrap the sealant, change also the gasket. Raplace everything and add sealant.

Then fill the oil in the trans.

It's not an easy procedure, but it can be done.

Not sure. Here's the picture it shows me. #43171 is the drain plug, #43121 is the fill plug.

The fill plug is in the front of the transmission at right.
The drain plug is at the right side of the trans, at bottom right.
And there is no filter.

The fill plug is a big nut. And it's enough big so that you can put your smallest finger in the hole.

The oil level should be at at the bottom of the hole. Use a syringe to fill it.
