85 or so Cavalier with the 2. something 4 cyl. Belongs to a friend, so i dont know the full details of what it has.

I do know the cooling fan isnt coming on. The fan works, because when you turn on the AC, the cooling fan kicks on. but they wont come on automatically when the engine is hot. Could someone help me locate the sensor or thermostat that controls this?

thanks for your help

Look next to one of the hoses going to the radiator. Per Haynes amnual for 1995 -2001 (maybe similar location on your 1985) , "On 1997 and earlier 2.2L engines the coolant temperature sensor is mounted on the left (drivers) end of the cylinder head, just behind the water outlet." Called ECT, Engine Coolant Temp sensor. I wish I could post a picture. Its in the Haynes manual, Figure 5.2a of chapter 6-11. Go to a local auto parts store. They can show you it on their computer or look in one of the on the shelf manuals if its open for your particular year.
