Hi, I installed a new EGR valve about a month ago on my 2003 Buick Ultra. I started getting a service engine soon light two weeks ago. I have contacted the e-bay seller who cannot believe I have a bad EGR valve. I sent him a copy of the scan, but he wants to know if I had the (EGR pressure sensor) and the (egr position sensor) checked. the scan readout states (where applicable) on both of these. Does this apply to my year model?? Thanks ellis479

Most scanners read EGR position in percentage, never heard of an EGR pressure reading. I think your E-bay seller is stalling! BTW, what brand of EGR did you get Delphi, ACDelco, or other?

HOTZ28,

You know your cars, the scan did not show a percentage on the EGR position. The tech. that ran the scan said this did not apply to the newer electronic EGR's. The brand is Delphi, just double checking before I get back to the supplier. I agree that he is stalling, since this part has a one year warrenty if they stand behind it. Thanks ellis479

Usually, the scanner will show 0 actual % @ idle, you have to monitor actual percentage while driving & under load. The linear EGR valve is a high-tech system and most EGR’s are electronic now. They come with a built-in pintle-position sensor which allows the PCM to continuously monitor "actual pintle position" and then it can adjust it to the "desired pintle position" as a percentage. A generic scan tool will display both of these parameters in the same way as it does "actual rpm" and "desired rpm." BTW, have you checked the EGR passages for blockage?

HOTZ28,

It appears to me, this type EGR electronic package monitors and automatically adjusts the pintle-position. That's the same info. I got from the tech that did the scan for me. I will remove the EGR and inspect for blockage. I appreciate the informed reply. Thanks ellis479

HOTZ28,

I removed and cleaned the egr ports with high pressure, did not find any kind of blockage. I believe the EGR valve is not working right even though it looks new inside. Thanks for your help! ellis479
