I need to change my front crank seal. I will try to loosen the sprocket bolt by manually but am pretty sure I will need to use the "control arm brace/starter bump" method described on this forum. I have a couple of questions about that procedure:

1. Do I have to drain the oil from the oil pan plug prior to pulling the crank seal out or can I let it dribble out of the crank seal gap into a drain pan and then top up afterward.

2. Is the starter bump procedure done before removing the timing belt?

3. Does the crank seal look just like the cam seal? I thought my Partsdinosaur gasket kit had two cam seals but maybe it is a crank seal?

4. When I replace the sprocket bolt do I put Threadlock on it?

Thanks

1 NO
2.Doesn't matter, but I would do it befor.
3.Parts dino dude gives you two cranks seals one for each side, the cam
seal looks different. It's been 5 years since I used his kit, but that's
how I remember it.
4.You can, but I don't and have done two without the bolt backing out.

"3.Parts dino dude gives you two cranks seals one for each side"

Maybe this is my problem. I did not see a place to put another seal
on the cam. I put one on the left (timing belt) side. The right side is
sealed by an O ring on the distributor shaft (?). I will check into it.

The cam and crank seal are both the same.

Yes they are!

I bought an Illustrated Parts Catalogue (IPC) off Ebay a few weeks ago mostly just for all the illustrations. The camshaft seal and crank seal
part numbers listed are the same.

Thanks

I stand corrected on cam crank seal. I was thinking of the biger seal on the
other side of the engine (crank)

Thats cool! I appreciate all efforts to help.

I am just glad I don't have to order something and wait for it.
Since I already have the seal it will be my Saturday project.

Regards
