I got a 91 Park Ave with 149,000 miles on it. It had been dying out on me lately. After about two to three cranks and about 10 minutes it will start back up and die again. I had to get it towed. I took it to Merlin and they told me that it was my ignition coil. Got that replace and was running fine for the rest of they day no problems. The service engine soon light is not on. This morning on my way to work I was creeping through traffic and it just died on me. Talking about pissed because I just spent money on what I thought was the problem. Any suggestions???? Could it be the fuel pump???

The only way to diagnose this, is to check spark & fuel (pressure) when it dies & will not start, otherwise we can only speculate. Do you know if the ignition module was replaced in conjunction with the coil(s)? Do you have three coils mounted on top of the ICM (Delco) or are the coils internal (Magnovox)?

The mechanic told me that the coil was fine and it should be because I just had that replaced. I have the one single pack coil it's not individual 3. I just left Merlin and he keeps telling me to take it to a GM dealer because it's a security issue. Since its a OB1 system that's what he is telling me. And since his diagnostic machine can not tap into the security system he's telling me to take it to a dealer because that seems to be the problem. Could this be the problem? Would a default in the security system cause the car just to shut off and not start because I can not go 10-15 min w/o it shutting off?

Absolutely not, the security system will not cause the engine to stall once the engine is running. You probably have a bad crank sensor, they tend to be heat sensitive. BTW, you can check the DTC's without a scanner, just jump terminals A&B on the ALDL port. Click Here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=679458)for instructions. :smokin:

If this is the problem which I hope is this a job I can do myself? If so, do you have the instructions and proper tools needed for this job?
