Check engine light is throwing a 43 code (multiple/single misfire). Car idles smooth and can rev the engine and it runs smooth but when we put it in gear, it runs extremely rough almost dies. I pulled the plugs and they are ok. Check engine light stays on all the time.

Anybody ever experience this problem?

Thanks!

Update, it was a bad coil. Ohms test showed it was a good coil, but it wasn`t. Put a new coil on and it worked fine

Thanks for the feedback!!!! Our 97 is doing a very similar thing, and giving the code 43. It hiccups when driving; is worse the faster you want to go. Its not like a single cylinder misfiring, but like all 4 of them quitting very briefly.
The other possible causes so far were a bad Crankshaft or Cam Position Sensor, (both of which I changed), or a bad wiring harness (which I repaired once but plan to rebuild again this summer) or a worn camshaft that was moving sideways, and perhaps not 'triggering' the cam position sensor reliably.
Now I can change the coils and hope that fixes it. (Rebuilding that engine wiring harness is a LOT of work - for removal,repair,re-installation). Im also going to replace the 'target magnet' in the end of the camshaft, as magnets will eventually weaken.

I wasn`t getting any spark at all from the #3 cylinder output from the coil (pulled the plug wire at the coil). Shop said the coil was fine according to the ohms test... WRONG!
Only listen to half of what they say and figure it out yourself. I`ve saved over $1500 in repair bills (2004 Impala and Neon) in the last year alone by not having the shops do it.

Let me know if the new coil did the trick. :banghead:
