93 cavalier can't restart after warm.shenen 04-28-2009, 09:37 PM :crying: Hi: My 93 cavalier(2.2L, DIS ignition,MPFI) has a weird symptom, it starts and runs fine on the 1st startup while the engine is still cold, but when the engine is warming up, sometime it will stall, sometime I can restart it, sometime not, and I have to let it sit a while till it's completely cold before I can restart it again. I did some basic troubleshooting, and found out I can't restart because there is no spark. But why no spark when it's warm and spark comes back when it's cold to touch. Even when it's cool down enough that I can put hands on the engine, oil pan, ignition coil, it still won't restart until completely cold. Disconnect battery(i.e. reset ECM doesn't help) I searched the forum and googled around to see if someone who have similar problems, (1) some said it's crank position sensor, which I changed. (2) some said it's probably due to O2 sensor or ignition coil, but when the car is cool down to hand is able to touch(lurk warm), it should go back to open loop mode, and the car should be able to start. This is how I eliminate this one(correct if I am wrong). Besides it shouldn't cause "no spark" symptom. (3) it has to sit for a while. when I turn off the engine, I can restart it for the next 5 or 10 minutes, but if I let it sit for at least 1/2 hour then try to restart it, it won't. If someone can shed some lights, I greatly appreciated, a small compensation will be awarded if that leads to solve the problem. regards, shenen shenen 08-09-2009, 02:27 PM Well, no one respond to my request, but I finally solved the problem, after 4 months. The problem is ignition module. After changed it, it no longer stopped after warm up. It's a trial and error method, thus take so long. And, when I removed the old module, I see some water, the module is kind of damp. FYI. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
