Dash Lights Stay On After Key Is RemovedRickMan 04-24-2009, 11:56 PM A friend at work has a 2001(?) Honda Accord. Several weeks ago his daughter had a problem with it when she turned the ignition switch off and removed the key, the engine kept running. So he replaced the ignition switch. That fixed that problem. After about two weeks, there is an intermittent problem where when the ignition is turned off and the key removed, the dash lights stay on causing the battery to drain. This is an intermittent problem since the ignition switch replacement. He took it to a shop and they kept it for two days and could not get the problem to repeat. Another week goes by and now it's doing it again. Any ideas what to look for? RickMan 04-29-2009, 04:00 PM FIXED! One additional bit of info: About a week before replacing the ignition switch, he replaced the brake switch on the brake pedal when his daughter was unable to start the car in park. About a week later is when he had the issue with the engine remaining to run after the ignition was turned off and the key removed. The dashlight problem returned while the car was at home and when he pressed the brake pedal, the dashlights went out. He pulled the brake switch and adjusted it by one turn and tried it again. Dashlights turning off normally. He then removed the brake switch again and adjusted it in the oppositie direction and re-installed. The dashlights stayed on. By wigging the brake switch he could make the dashlights go on and off. He adjusted the brake switch again (correctly) and the problem has went away. Not sure if the engine staying on after the key was removed was related or not, maybe just a coincidence. Anyways, who would of "thunk" that a brake pedal switch would cause the dashlights to stay on? Go figure. jeffcoslacker 04-30-2009, 12:56 AM How strange. wouldn't be surprised if there is yet more to this story.... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
