Gear shift indicator broken - fix?vgb14 04-23-2009, 05:21 PM Hi, My gear indicator has never worked - the needle does not move and remains all the way to the right. I took the instrument panel out and noticed that the cable that pulls the needle was broken (cut). It's not a big deal except every once in a while I accidentally drive in the "2" gear until I notice that the RPM's are too high. Does anyone have experience repairing one of these? Thanks for your help. tempfixit 04-24-2009, 10:37 PM What year? vgb14 04-25-2009, 10:37 AM Sorry. It's a 1993 Villager. Thanks. tempfixit 04-26-2009, 05:15 AM I have not done any work on the steering column to date but hopefully this will help. I would go to a salvage yard to see if they have a compariable van and remove the cable before working on yours then you will know what needs to be done without breaking anything on yours. Here is a link for the Factory Service Manual for the villager/quest: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/ (http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/) scroll down to quest, click on it and choose year. Go to section ST, I believe this will help you with procedure to replace cable. hope this helps From what I have been reading it seems that you need to remove the cluster and lower the steering column to disconnect the cable from the selector plate. vgb14 04-26-2009, 09:44 PM Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, temp. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
