It could be your brake on/off (BOO) switch. Try putting the gear selector in neutral, then try to start the van. If it then starts, then it is the BOO switch, which is located on the brake pedal. DO NOT drive the van if the BOO switch is bad, you will not have any brake lights. It is a simple fix and has happened to a number of Windstar owners. Look at the sticky's to find more common issues with the Windstar. God Luck , Steve

starting at the basics, have you confirmed that the battery is good? How is the starter?

Can you elaborate on the BOO switch regarding start/no-start Steve? I've never heard this before. The guts of a BOO switch are pretty basic and I (possibly wrongly) thought it was simply for the brake lights. I've had a similar problem with my 2000 WS and it was the TRS. I don't see how switching into N will have anything to do with the BOO switch.

Not sure if this is your problem but wanted to ask a question.. Do you have 2 sets of keys or just one... The reason I ask is I had a friend who has a 2002 or 03 that had the same issue except they only had one key.. I have a 2001 that came with one key also.. If the transponder chip goes bad and you only have one key it can be tricky to figure out.. So if you have 2 sets of keys try the other one... Also to rule out the anti-theft system your theft like on the dash when you sit in it with no key in the dash should blink about every 3 seconds.. Then with key in the ignition and you turn it to the on position should stay on for about 3 seconds and go out with the other dash lights that don't stay on. You will have a few lights to stay on do to the fact the car has not been started..

If the theft light starts to blink fast or stays on you may have a problem... The bad part is it may have to be fixed by the dealer.. If there is a problem with the fact of may having one key than I would replace the key with a new transponder key.. But if you have 2 keys and still have the same issue than disregard this unless your theft light is blinking fast.. This may not be your issue but sometime the transponder key gets over looked..

Have you checked your fuses in the fuse panel?
