I'm looking to add power to my front wheel drive chevy impala. Is it really a waste of time to add a supercharger to a fwd? What can I do to make my car powerful?

Pontiac and Buick didn't think it a waste of time... Grand Prix GTP is an awesome performer. Is your Impala a 6 or an 8?

You might get better response in the "Chevrolet" forum, as the car you describe is not a "muscle car", no matter how much power you provide it.
