I just finished rebuilding a dana 60 rear end on my 71 f250. My question is how much heat is normal in the pumpkin of the rear end after driving...about as warm as you would want to touch after about 15 miles?

I remember the Dana 60 in the 77 F-250 I used to own getting quite warm, the ring and pinon are being cooled by 80w90 oil sitting in a puddle at the bottom of the pumpkin with no external cooling, if you are really worried about it take it to a 4x4 shop (even if yours is a 2x4) and ask them if its getting too hot.
