after i start it i shift into drive and after she's moving it seems to hasitate to shift into the next gear it feels like she is reving up and than u feel it kick in hard now I notice a small wet stain on my driveway after she sat for 4 days it seems like redish trans oil or power steering oil. this condition has being happening for a while I thought it was because it was cold or something.I'm taking it to the shop on Monday but I want to be prepare with an idea of what's wrong don't want to get beat with the old "u need to rebuild trick". and it's just a bad sensor routine know what I mean. can anyone tell me what could be wrong I got 122k miles and I belive she hasn't been touched before.

Check the tranny floid level. Make sure it's warmed up first!

Yep; these transmissions are sensitive to low fluid levels...if you've had a leak it's likely low.

Also, where is the leak coming from? If it's from the transmission pan, that gasket is an easy repair -- AND if it's never been opened up before, this is a great opportunity to replace the trans filter and some of the fluid (about 1/2 is in the pan).

Fresh fluid can work wonders if you're having a shifting problem. I know a guy who was told he needed a rebuild, he changed the fluid every month or so when he had a shifting problem, just a pan drop and refill each time, and the problem went away for another 100k miles.

my 99 dropped a trans without a leak. odds are it'd done. the 42re are junk once they've overheated. the slipping and clunking are a sign that she's toast. sorry bout the bad news.

True enough....but IMO a fluid change is better than a rebuild, and worth a shot!

i'm sure it'll work better for a while. after i cooked mine i put about 15K on it but it started getting really bad so i put in a rebuilt. wasn't cheap or easy but better than letting a shop do it. About 2k less too.

Had a similar problem with my 4.0L JGC, it turned out to be some sort of cable or linkage between motor and trans that was connected but not properly. I know the answer is vague but the problem was fixed by the dealer, re-appeared again about a year later and dealer said it came loose and repaired it again.

I also have the same issue, sometimes just taking off from a stoplight it will rev up and go no where almost like it's in neutral and then TAKE off on me. I have been trying to track the problem for months, I recently took it for inspection and they found that there is a large leak in the pan area, they then went and dyed the fluid to be able to pin point exactly where it's coming from. Once I go back in next week they will see where it is and fix it and hopefully the issue is gone. I would take it in somewhere if you can't spot it yourself, or at least get under it and check your trans pan area.
