Hello.

I am currently considering purchasing a 1993 Nissan Pathfinder XE Sport 4X4, for $400.

The seller said it is in good condition mechanically, other than needing some new spark plug wires. I have one fear, however...

The car has 176,000 miles. It has been sitting since last fall. I don't know if the timing belt has been replaced at all, and I am waiting to hear back from the seller. If the timing belt is original, wouldn't it have gone/busted by now?

He drove it everyday until last fall, and said it worked fine; he also said it was "checked out" and everything was okay. I really want this car; it would be a project car for my dad and I. If we have to replace the belt, so be it. It could be a project; I am just worried about the 2-hour drive home.

Other than some rust, everything works. It has power everything (that works) and the owner said it is drivable.

Good deal for $400? Safe to drive home w/o knowing the condition of the belt?

Thanks =]

Have a professional mechanic near there check it out before you buy it.
