is it hard to change a starterkeithmcclees 04-15-2009, 05:56 PM I might be changing a starter is it hard to do by myself?.....I've never worked on a car really but I'm pretty good at following instructions and I would know beforehand whether or not to even attempt something once i hear what the task entails... 97 windstar 3.8 ctwright 04-15-2009, 06:24 PM It really depends on the vehicle, if you can look at it and see that there are no obstructions meaning nothing blocking that's in the way from pulling it out you shouldn't have any problems. Most important thing is to make sure that you unhook your battery first. Also too when unhooking the battery not sure of your vehicle but some vehicles it can be a pain, I changed out motor mounts for my brother and after I hooked the battery back up, the thing wouldn't run right, turned out to be an anti-theft problem with the radio, he finally remembered the code and put it in radio then the truck ran fine. I guess if he got the truck used and didn't know the code we would have had to go to the dealership. Well, after getting the battery unhooked, you just take loose the wires, unbolt the starter(may be easier to take the starter out before unhooking the wires, if you have to do it that way don't let the starter hang by the wires), and put the other one back in it's place and hook the wires up the same as they were on the old starter. wiswind 04-15-2009, 06:43 PM I would pay a visit to www.autozone.com and look up "vehicle specific repair information" for your vehicle.....it will give instructions on how to do the job. keithmcclees 04-16-2009, 02:53 AM thanks alot, i read the guide and i can definitely do it, i'll let you know how it goes... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
